Portuguese Island
is a deserted island approx. 3 km from Inhaca Island. The boat crossing
only takes about 10 -15 minutes and picnic lunches can be arranged from
Inhaca Lodge. Portuguese Island has beautiful beaches and the lagoon
area is great for all manner of watersports. The snorkelling is also
fairly good.
Santa Maria Wall (also known as Ponte Torres) is quite far
from Inhaca Lodge, on the other side of the island. The boat trip takes
approximately 45 minutes each way. This is actually a reef, which is
really great for "drift" dives or snorkelling. The "wall"
is a rocky ledge that falls steeply down to 20 metres. Best dived leading
up to high tide; the jagged rocks have many caves and ledges that harbour
all kinds of marine life.
CURRENCY:
Payments for reservations are due prior to arrival at the Lodge. All
extra incurred on the island are due in full on departure from the Lodge.
The Lodge accepts Meticais from Mozambican residents and US Dollars
or Rands from overseas guests. Major credit cards are also welcome.
TRANSFERS –
Daily Flights:
There are daily flights between Maputo and the island, at reasonable
rates, which makes the island highly accessible.
FLIGHTS TO MAPUTO:
Both LAM (the Mozambique Airline), and SAA fly into Maputo on a daily
basis. Special IT Fares (inclusive tour fares) are available, which
make packages to Inhaca very reasonable.
